The Challenge:
- Not knowing where to begin
ATTENTION:
If you have a challenging room and would like some help, please feel free to contact us. We love a good challenge and would like to feature your story on our web site.
The question we most often hear is "Where do I start?"
This following is a step-by-step process for
decorating a room when you move into new home
- Start with the room you are going to live in the most, usually the family room
- Tear out magazine pages of rooms you like to copy
- How do you want this room to feel? Soft and Zinful, invigorating, etc..
- Shop your home for items you might have used in other rooms or had in storage...think outside the box!
- Add color with window treatments, pillows, and a few new accent pieces
- Add greenery to make a home feel alive ( silk is OK)
- Add mirrors to a dark corner for added interest
- Make sure you add enough lighting to read by and soft evening lighting for mood
- Schedule redesigners to finish the room

The Challenge... Updated window treatments and room divider
Solution: The window treatments were purchased from Linen's n Things and added a huge impact with color. The room divider was purchased from IKEA and now can be used to also place collectibles. The mirror also from IKEA and angled in the corner and draws the living area into the dining room making it appear larger than what it actually is.
Challenge... To have a conversation area that didn't feel like it was being taken over by the elevated dining room.
Solution: By having the room divider from IKEA, the dining room felt more like a loft area and not such an odd space. The couch and chair were positioned in front of the fireplace and facing the dining room with room for another chair to be added in the future. We also updated the window treatments to compliment the dining room. Now these two rooms feel like they are more pulled together versus one disjointed... literally.
Sometimes the challenge isn't what to do with the space, but getting past what is still left behind by the previous owners. In this case, there is a door that leads to the side of the yard. The homeowners hated it.
We turned it into a faux window using the same treatments we added to the door wall. The homeowners felt they would never use this door and loved it being hidden.
